Common Ground

  • Blue Rock School 110 Demarest Mill Road West Nyack, NY, 10994 United States (map)

Join us for an evening talk with author, teacher and activist, Eileen Flanagan. She will be sharing aspects of her new book and her lifelong commitment to environmental action and justice.

With Earth Quaker Action Team, Eileen has played key leadership roles in three climate campaigns, including one against a multinational bank to pause its financing of mountaintop removal coal mining. Her newest book, Common Ground: How the Crisis of the Earth is Saving Us from Our Illusion of Separation, argues that solidarity with all life is our best hope for survival. The book is the result of eight years of research and connection with community coalitions that have successfully bridged differences across race, class, and religion to achieve common environmental goals. As a first-generation college student, she earned a BA from Duke and an MA from Yale. The Dalai Lama endorsed her award-winning book The Wisdom to Know the Difference, and some of the best-known climate activists in the world endorsed her memoir Renewable. She lives with her husband on Lenape land in Philadelphia.
